Ice cream shops are ubiquitous in London, but say the magic word (Italian) and we’re merrily gearing up to queue for one hour for a £5+ scoop. There is no ice cream quite like proper Italian gelato.

Made in small batches, churned slower and served at a slightly warmer temperature than regular ice cream, proper gelato is denser, silkier and more intensely flavoured. If you’ve tried it, you know it tastes unmistakably of its ingredients rather than of sugar and artificial flavourings.

La Gelateria Della Luna is the brand new Italian gelateria bringing the beloved and longed for traditional Italian gelato to West London.

Founded by nutritionist and private chef Simay Aktas, the new café arrived just last week to Fulham Road. It has a clear and commendable mission: to bring the kind of unhurried, quality-first gelateria experience that Italy does so naturally to West London.

The gelato is sourced from Oddono’s – the award-winning London-based Italian gelato maker, with Great Taste Awards and a Gordon Ramsay endorsement to its name.

What’s on the menu?

Alongside the gelato, the café will serve slow-fermented two-tone croissants with chocolate and hazelnut fillings, and speciality coffee from local roasters Code.194. The drinks menu extends to matcha, ube and spirulina lattes, and a traditional Italian hot chocolate. The space – textured walls, window seating, indoor and outdoor tables – is designed to feel like a neighbourhood fixture from day one.

Aktas, who spent years searching for a place like this in London before deciding to open one herself, is clear about what she was going for.

“I wanted to create the kind of neighbourhood gelateria I always searched for – somewhere warm, beautiful and focused on quality. From the ingredients to the atmosphere, everything is designed to feel authentic and welcoming.”
