Leave it to two Aberdeenshire neighbours to turn a tub of ice cream into a pint. BrewDog and Mackie’s of Scotland have teamed up for Two Scoops, a 7% honeycomb ice cream stout that blurs the line between indulgence and invention – a beer that drinks like dessert, with a distinctly Scottish twist.

Inspired by Mackie’s bestselling honeycomb ice cream, Two Scoops takes the buttery sweetness of honeycomb and folds it into a rich, velvety stout brewed just a few miles down the road at BrewDog HQ in Ellon.

It’s a love letter to local flavour and craftsmanship, pairing Mackie’s family-farm nostalgia with BrewDog’s irreverent, rule-breaking spirit. The result? A pint that’s both homely and mischievous.

Two icons, one idea

The partnership feels like a match made in heaven (or Aberdeenshire, in this case) – two local success stories that grew from humble beginnings into household names. Mackie’s has spent decades perfecting its sky-to-scoop ice cream on the family’s fifth-generation farm, powered by wind and solar energy.

The company has become one of Scotland’s biggest food exports, producing over ten million litres of ice cream a year and recently expanding its range into chocolate, crisps, and frozen desserts – all still made on the same family farm. That “farm-to-freezer” ethos has made Mackie’s a fixture in UK supermarkets and a benchmark for sustainable production.

BrewDog, meanwhile, has been rewriting the rules of craft beer since 2007, taking bold flavours and Scottish grit global. In 2025, the company unveiled its first major rebrand in five years – refreshing its Headliner range, including Punk IPA, Hazy Jane, Lost Lager and Elvis Juice, to give each beer a stronger individual identity.

Together, they’ve brewed something that’s both utterly new and somehow very comforting. Lauren Carroll, Chief Operating Officer at BrewDog, calls the collab “a celebration of Scotland in every sip.” She explains: “With Mackie’s just down the road from us, this felt like destiny. We’ve taken everything people love about their honeycomb ice cream and crafted a beer that’s equal parts bold stout and indulgent dessert.”

For Mackie’s, the partnership is a chance to show what happens when tradition meets experimentation. Managing Director Stuart Common says: “Honeycomb has always been a favourite with our customers, and seeing it transformed into a rich stout shows just how much potential there is in pairing local creativity with quality ingredients. This collaboration is a celebration of what our region does best – producing bold, distinctive flavours with real character.”

So, what does Two Scoops taste like?

The new ice-cream-flavoured beer isn’t the sugar bomb you might expect. It’s sweet but rounded, buttery and smooth. The honeycomb flavour comes through clearly though it’s balanced by a malty bitterness so there’s the level of depth you would expect from a regular stout. It’s the kind of beer for people who enjoy something rich and a bit playful — those who like their stouts on the sweeter side or want a dessert-style drink with some character. If you usually reach for an IPA or lager, this probably isn’t for you.

Where to find it

The beer made its first appearance at BrewDog’s AGM in July, where Equity for Punks members got an exclusive first taste. Now, Two Scoops is rolling out across the UK – it landed in Morrisons on 29th September, on BrewDog’s website on the 9th October, and soon after in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Asda. One can (440ml) costs £4.49.
