It might be cold outside, but you can now get a morning cortadito and evening rum cocktail to transport you to sunny and soulful Cuba.

Next week, from Tuesday to Friday (25–28 November), the independent coffee shop Kaffeine teams up with Ron Santiago de Cuba Rum, one of the island’s most celebrated rum producers, for a four-day pop-up called Café Con Ron.

This pop-up will bring the warmth, rhythm, and vibrant flavours of Santiago de Cuba to 15 Eastcastle Street, just off Oxford Street, in Central London. Expect Cuban coffee rituals in the morning, rum cocktails at sunset, and Cuban culture throughout the day.

What to expect: free coffees and cocktails

In the mornings, there is complimentary Cuban coffee being served from 8:30 am to 10:30 am. The (free, shall we repeat!) menu includes traditional favourites such as Cuban Coffee, Cortadito, and Café Con Leche. These are served alongside a sweet merienda bite (a light mid-morning or mid-afternoon snack -typically something small, sweet, and comforting).

Each cup complements the flavour notes of Ron Santiago de Cuba Rum (touches of roasted, caramel, vanilla or chocolate tones).

As the day stretches on, the café turns into a bar serving complimentary rum cocktails. From 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm, guests can indulge in creations like:

  • Café Invierno: A rich and aromatic cocktail that mixes rum with Mr Black coffee liqueur, winter-spiced honey, and espresso.
  • Café Ron Leche: A creamy and indulgent drink for all those with a sweet tooth out there. It has rum, coffee liqueur, chocolate bitters, and coconut cream, and a finish of festive spice.
  • La Espuma Dorada: A velvety blend of rum, coffee liqueur, chocolate aroma, and espresso. It’s topped with golden vanilla foam for a velvety finish.

All the evening cocktails star Mr Black coffee liqueur and Ron Santiago de Cuba Añejo 8 Year Old Rum (£26 – variable). This type of rum is made in the southeast of Cuba, where the island’s light rum style originated. Aged in white oak barrels, it has a smooth, gently sweet profile with notes of tropical fruit, honey, vanilla, coffee and chocolate.

It’s part of a much wider range from Ron Santiago de Cuba, which includes Carta Blanca, 11 Year Old, 12 Year Old and a 20 Year Old Gran Reserva.

Live music and entertainment

The energy of this pop-up goes far beyond what’s in the cup or the glass (though Cuban coffee is electrifying!). As evening approaches, The Latin Formula, a live Cuban band, will perform melodic street-style calls inspired by Santiago’s markets. Inside, DJ James Onur will keep the atmosphere lively with a mix of Latin house, disco and Cuban rhythms.

The Café Con Ron is free to attend, no booking needed. Pop by for an energy boost before work, or a catch-up with friends in the evening.

And if you’d rather avoid the November gloom, you can still get your Cuban rum fix at home. The Añejo 8 Year Old and wider range are available at Waitrose, The Whisky Exchange, and other online retailers.
