Love a bit of friendly competition? You’re in for a treat at The Lucky Goat. This brand-new competitive socialising venue opened on Bread Street, near St Paul’s, in late April 2026. It offers a full spread of games, from tech darts and shuffleboard to pool – and, of course, the time-honoured fallback after one too many spicy margs: karaoke.

It couldn’t suit the after-work Bank crowd better, though you’ll probably want to roll up your shirt sleeves and leave the blazer on the chair. This is very much a drink-and-play, high-energy experience where things get competitive fast, not just a polite, cordial pint with colleagues after work.

We visited the venue recently for games, food and drinks (perfect Tuesday evening trifecta in our books). Here’s all about our experience and you can expect when you visit.

So, what games can you play?

You can play interactive tech darts, shuffleboard, pool, air hockey, table football and, lastly, have a go at karaoke when you’re a few drinks down (the karaoke room is separate, so you can confidently hit those high notes or choose Umbrella by Rihanna without any judgy looks).

You can also mix and match different games throughout your visit – you just need to book a table or a game lane/room for a set time slot and the floor is yours. We played all of the games with the exception of karaoke, which to our disappointment wasn’t working on the day (we were fully really to unleash our inner performer).

Interactive tech darts are particularly (and surprisingly!) fun – for two clueless novices, we ended up not only doing relatively well but also really enjoying ourselves. There’s a selection of games you can choose from – some easier than others – so it’s definitely adaptive to all levels.

Shuffleboard was another game that turned out to be unexpectedly absorbing. Even if you’ve never played before (we hadn’t) and it looks a bit too old-school for your liking at first, a couple of throws in and you’re leaning over the table and getting weirdly competitive over millimetres. Thirty minutes disappears fast, but it’s enough time for a solid game.

What about the food?

As you might have guessed, there’s no fine dining here, so feel free to ditch the fork and knife and get stuck in properly with your hands. Flatbread sandwiches take centre stage, with plenty of variations to suit different tastes.

We went for the chopped shiitake with miso mushrooms, vegan mozzarella and pickled peppers, plus the tandoori paneer with mango chutney, herb salad and Bombay mix (£13) – one plant-based, one vegetarian. Both are proper, flavour-packed monsters that go down easily and keep you well fed for the night ahead. Don’t be intimidated by the size of the sandwich and get yourself some blistering hot, perfectly crunchy fries to accompany it – they’re a blissful £3 upgrade.

As any game venue worth its salt would offer, snacks are aplenty, and there’ll all zero-pretence, just big, heavy, flavourful food that’ll soak up the cocktails you’ve been tipping back in between game rounds. Think prawn toast, currywurst, käsekrainer corndogs and Oklahoma beef sliders (some vegetarian options available).

And what’s to drink?

The drinks are a touch more grown-up than you’d expect from somewhere so playful and laid-back. If you’re that way inclined, you can channel your inner City grandee and pretend you’ve landed the best table at Simpson’s in the Strand while nursing a Negroni or Old Fashioned. For everyone else, there’s a solid line-up of spritzes, easy-drinking cocktails and an extensive wine list, giving you plenty of options to keep the evening ticking along.

Left to right: Chopped shiitake with miso mushrooms, vegan mozzarella and pickled peppers + Tandoori paneer with mango chutney, herb salad and Bombay mix (both £13)
Left to right: Negroni (£13) and Fizzy Rascal with Aperol, elderflower, rhubarb, prosecco (£12.5)

Verdict

We visited on a Tuesday, and it wasn’t quite as lively as a place like this deserves to be. The Lucky Goat is at its best when people are letting loose, getting competitive and creating a bit of noise, so we’d wager a Thursday or Friday after work is when it really comes into its own.

Bring a group if you can. Not just for the atmosphere, but because there’s only so many times you can lose to the same person before it starts to feel personal (unless you’re the office darting prodigy and fully intend to sweep the board).

The games strike a nice balance between accessible and engaging, meaning even the sceptics will find themselves getting invested surprisingly quickly. Before long, two hours have disappeared – which is especially useful if you’re trapped at a mandatory work social and don’t necessarily fancy making small talk all evening.

The trick is to mix it up: play a few games, grab some food, and keep the drinks flowing. You’ll have earned that spritz after what’s essentially a light cardio session disguised as a night out.
