London’s most iconic ice rink is back, and it’s not budging on Christmas sparkle. From today, 12 November, to 11 January 2026, Skate at Somerset House with Virgin Atlantic Holidays officially returns to transform the neoclassical courtyard into a full-blown festive wonderland.
Think twinkling lights, the city’s most photogenic 40ft Christmas tree, and a line-up of winter drinks, comforting bakes, art, and after-hours entertainment that goes far beyond your average rink session.
What to expect from this year’s Skate at Somerset House
Now in its 25th anniversary year, Somerset House is marking the milestone in style. The ice becomes both stage and canvas this season, thanks to a new artistic commission by Harold Offeh, whose Creating Patterns series inspires skaters to leave their own playful traces across the ice. It’s an installation you can literally glide through.
The music
Once again, Skate Lates return to liven up weekday nights with open-air sets from London’s best DJs. This year’s line-up leans into Somerset House’s creative spirit: DJ Shortee Blitz headlines a special session inspired by Jennie Baptiste: Rhythm & Roots, the acclaimed photographer’s debut exhibition currently showing inside.
Expect hip-hop, club classics, and late-night atmosphere beneath the stars. Also joining the schedule are Foundation FM’s Kennedy Taylor, Knoxx and ELLAHDC, NTS favourite Ruf Dug, and queer dance collective Sue Veneers. All sets will stream live into the brand-new Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse, where guests can enjoy the music off the ice.

Food, drinks and entertainment
New for 2025, the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse brings a touch of the airline’s signature luxury to the courtyard. Inspired by their iconic airport lounges, the Clubhouse will serve up seasonal cocktails and warming treats with stunning rink views.
There’ll also be special themed sessions inspired by Virgin Atlantic Holidays’ dream destinations, complete with festive surprises designed to make skating nights feel like mini getaways.

And for those who prefer their Christmas magic with a side of melted cheese, The Chalet by Jimmy Garcia is back, serving its beloved raclette with all the trimmings, alongside charcuterie, buttered potatoes, and freshly baked bread. And this year, Blondies Kitchen joins the line-up for the first time with indulgent Mince Pie Cookie Cups.

Gifting
Gift hunters will find plenty to love too. The Shelter Boutique, presented by HSBC UK, returns as the ultimate shop-with-purpose destination, featuring donations from brands like AllSaints, Nobody’s Child, Oliver Bonas and Topshop. In the true spirit of Christmas, every purchase supports Shelter’s vital housing and homelessness work. Visitors can also join wreath-making workshops using repurposed fabrics.
Skating lessons
For skaters looking to improve their skills (or simply learn to stay upright), the Skate School offers daytime lessons with National Ice Skating Association–accredited instructors. Younger visitors can join the Kids’ Skate Club, where children aged 6 to 10 can build confidence on the ice with help from friendly marshals and stabilisers.
And in keeping with Somerset House’s commitment to inclusivity, wheelchair users are welcomed for both general and dedicated sessions. There are also “Chilled Out” mornings that provide a calmer environment with reduced capacity.
Exhibitions
The magic of Skate doesn’t stop at the rink. Inside, visitors can explore two major exhibitions: Jennie Baptiste: Rhythm & Roots (17 October 2025–4 January 2026), and Wayne McGregor: Infinite Bodies (30 October 2025–22 February 2026).
